BREAKING: DESPERATE SKOUFIS CAMPAIGN HITS NEW LOW FABRICATING HEADLINE TO LIE ABOUT BASILE’S RECORD

WOODBURY, NY- Desperate and without a clear path to victory, the Skoufis campaign has resorted to fabricating more fake news on Facebook about Tom Basile’s record on the Stony Point Town Board.

On Friday afternoon, the Skoufis campaign and the State Democrat Party posted a fake Rockland County Times headline alleging that Tom Basile voted to break the tax cap. The fake headline claims “BREAKING NEWS: Tom Basile will break the tax cap.” In reality, the Stony Point Town Board’s latest budget is under the cap, keeps spending nearly flat and reduces taxes for the second year in a row. Additionally, no procedural vote on going over the tax cap was even taken by the board. The Rockland County Times’ actual headline reads, “Stony Point Budget comes in under tax cap; Nuisance Party Law passed by board.”

This fabrication is part of a pattern of misinformation Stony Point Town Supervisor Jim Monaghan called “deliberately misleading and false,” about Basile’s record and that of the Board. Even though Monaghan and Basile have provided the facts about the Board’s record, Skoufis has continued to lie to the public.

Basile campaign spokesman Bob Driscoll said, “James Skoufis just keeps on lying. He’s lied repeatedly about Tom Basile’s record. He’s lied about cutting taxes when he’s voted for billions in tax increases. He’s been caught hiding a $1.7 million NYC residence while telling people he lives in Woodbury. Now he’s making up headlines. He’s shameless and will say anything to save his flailing campaign.”
